Celtic
Concerto premiered in 1999. In it the composer blends
her strong classical background with her love of Celtic
music to achieve a dazzling showcase for the Celtic
harp.
"When
I play Celtic music all my worries fly away as the melodies
unroll through my fingers. I was commissioned by the
Diablo Symphony to write some arrangements for Celtic
harp and orchestra to be presented on a concert featuring
Celtic music in Walnut Creek. I became so immersed in
the potential sounds of harp with orchestra that I wrote
the piece in about four days, complete with the orchestration
in my head. It took the rest of the summer to put it
on the computer and fine-tune the score."

Yule-tide
music for the Celtic harp.
The
word yule is from an Old English word meaning
Christmas, geol. Yuletide is celbrated at the
time of year when light returns to the world. As the
physical light returns with the barely perceptible lengthening
of days, we also envision spiritual light bathing the
earth with good will and community. In this spirit of
global well-being, proceeds from this recording will
be forwarded to an organization dedicated to enhancing
world-wide service - The Krista Foundation.

The
Grafted Tree
(CD)
Samples: Sir Orfeo (ra)
|
The
Grafted Tree is a set of three medieval stories with
harp accompaniment. The lively duo of Psallite
(Linda Marie Zaerr and Laura Zaerr) combines evocative
Middle English verse with flexible and strategic harp
music. The historically informed harp improvisations
gracefully enhance and highlight the rich romances.
Linda Maries aggressive renditions of medieval
texts facilitate comprehension for modern audiences
while remaining true to medieval performance possibilities.
Her narrative options are explored in a dramatic and
witty performance of Sir Orfeo, Sir Handsome Stranger,
and Sir Bevis.

Where
Falls the Rain
(Cassette)
|
As
well as being an excellent harpist, Laura is also a
first-rate composer as can be seen in this cassette
tape project. She blends the sound of flute (Alice Burke)
and cello (Dale Bradley) with her harp for 60 minutes
of classical/ folk/ new-age original instrumental music.
The first side includes Seasonal Suite for solo harp.
The mood suggests the landscape and climate of Oregon.

The
Laughing Dove was inspired by my other passion: mountain
biking. When Glenn Justus asked me to record this project
in honor of his brother I wanted to write a tune that
would sparkle with vivacity and put people in a good
mood. My inspiration came from the isolated back roads
of McDonald forest, just outside of Corvallis. This
album includes 3 harps (Laura Zaerr with Rebecca Hilary
Smith and Maureen Brennan), fiddle (Brian Theriault),
flute (Melanie Place), and percussion (Kathryn Ronnenberg).
These friends came together in the studio to create
a rich experience of sound, weaving together such Celtic
favorites as Blind Mary, Carrickfergus, and After
the Battle of Aughrim, as well as several Renaissance
tunes and Laura Zaerr originals.

Laura
teams up with her sister in this cassette of Medieval
stories translated and narrated by Linda Marie. The
gothic harp provides a background of Medieval tunes
to set the mood for stories such as Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight, and the delightful story of Caedmaon.
