"When I play Celtic music all my worries fly away as the melodies unroll through my fingers. I was commissioned by the Diablo Symphony to write some arrangements for Celtic harp and orchestra to be presented on a concert featuring Celtic music in Walnut Creek. I became so immersed in the potential sounds of harp with orchestra that I wrote the piece in about four days, complete with the orchestration in my head. It took the rest of the summer to put it on the computer and fine-tune the score."

The Laughing Dove was inspired by my other passion: mountain biking. When Glenn Justus asked me to record this project in honor of his brother I wanted to write a tune that would sparkle with vivacity and put people in a good mood. My inspiration came from the isolated back roads of McDonald forest, just outside of Corvallis. This album includes 3 harps (Laura Zaerr with Rebecca Hilary Smith and Maureen Brennan), fiddle (Brian Theriault), flute (Melanie Place), and percussion (Kathryn Ronnenberg). These friends came together in the studio to create a rich experience of sound, weaving together such Celtic favorites as Blind Mary, Carrickfergus, and After the Battle of Aughrim, as well as several Renaissance tunes and Laura Zaerr originals.
